1. Father Joao Ferrao (1715....1740)
He was the Chief Officer of the Fabrica (Fabriqueiro) of the Church at
Aldona.
2. Father Joaquim Jose de Jesus Maria Ferrao, from Santer-xette
( 1754....1796)
He was confessor (Provision dated 23-3-1775)
3. Father Francisco Xavier Ferrao (Monimenta Goana Ecclesiastica, hereafter
Mon (138..6), son of Marcos Ferrao and of Angelina de Lima.
Paternal Grandson ( hereafter P.G.S.) of Francisco Ferrao and of Rosa Maria
Lobo.
Maternal Grandson (hereafter M.G.S.) of Diogo de Lima and of Rosa Fernandes.
His brother is Lourenco Manuel Ferrao, baptised in Aldona, on 25-10-1789
aged 12 days being his Godparents Agostinho Damiao Rodrigues and Esperenca
Ferrao.
Father Francisco X. Ferrao was ordained by Archbishop D. Frei Manuel de
Santa Catarina (1784 -1812), in the chapel of Palacio on 22-9-1810

4. Father Domingos Joaquim da Anunciacao Ferrao ( Mon 243-17), son of
Benjamim Francisco Diogo Ferrao and of Ana Joaquina Angelica dos Santos Pereira.
P.G.S. of Silvestre Caitano Ferrao and of Ana Severina de Sa.
Paternal Great Grandson ( P.G.G.S.) of Marcos Antonio Ferrao and of
Arcangela de Lima.
Father Domingos Joaquim and Father Tome Angelo Ferrao are brothers and so
also Aristides Belarmino Ferrao whose son Joao Belarmino died in Tete on
29-10-1904 ( O Crente of 8-4-1905) He is the brother of Carlos Feleciano Xavier
Ferrao and of Father Tome Angelo Ferrao ( vide Properties (bens) in Boletim
Oficial (B. O. hereafter) No 44 of 1874 page 226/9). He sold his property in
Mulgao to Dr Querobino Almeida from Mapusa ( B.O. No 2 Dt 1881 page 14/13).

Godmother .. Raquel Pereira.
He is born in Santer-xette on 26/5/1844 and baptised in Aldona at his house
on 26/5/1844.

1881 to 1888.... Vicar "encomendado" of the Church of Our Lady of Remedios
de Damao ( Portaria hereafter Port. No 132 of 27/9/1881: Prov. Dt 8/10/1818,
took charge in 1881.
1888 to 1890 .... Vicar of Tarapur.
Father J. Humbert S. J. in Catholic Bombay, her Priest and thier Training,
part 2, 1800 to 1928, Bombay 1964, on page 196 says .. Father Domingos
Joaquim da Anunciacao Ferrao was Vicar of Nossa Senhora do Rosario, Tarapur from 188
until 1890.
He died on 21-9-1903 at 2.00 am at Santer-Xette, Aldona and buried in the
evening of the same day. He was 58 years old.
5. Father Joao Jose Lazaro Ferrao (Mon. 244-38), son of Francisco do Rosario
Ferrao and of Berta Raquel Pinto :

He was born on 23-2-1845 in Santer-Xette, Aldona and was baptised with the
name Joao Jose Lazaro Francisco, 1845.
He concluded his Theology Course through Rachol Seminary on 14-2-1878.
Ordained Priest by Archbp. Ornelas on 9-2-1879 at Rachol Seminary he said
his first mass at Colegio de Monte de Guirim (Prov. Dt 11-2-1879).
Confession exam at Mapusa on 4-3-1880: 7-11-82: 1-9-86.
Preaching exam at Mapusa on 16-2-1818 : 20-7-93: 7-11-1901.
passed the first year of Escola Normal de Nova Goa in 1870.
Teacher of Elementary School in Taleigao by Decree of the Governor Dt
1-9-1870 (B.O. 1870) took charge on 4-10-1870.
Transfered to identical School at Serula by Portaria Provincial ( hereafter
P.P. 1876), took charge on 1-9-1876. Transfered to Aldona School by P.P. of
10-10-1879, No 807 (P.O. No 109) took charge on 9-1-1880 and was confirmed by
the Decree of 1880 (P.O. No 269).
Transferred to Siolim School by P.P. No 272 Dt 9-8-1907 (B.O. No 69).
He was judged "incapable in service", in the session of 19-9-1907, the view
of the Health Department was confirmed and his teaching career was terminated
by P.P No 340 of 26-9-1907 (B.O. No 78). Retired by Decree of 23-7-1908 (B.O.
No 64. Paid for his service (vide B.O. No 55 of 1896 and No 35 of 1906.
He died in Aldona on 9-1-1936 ( vide Necrology in A Voz de Sao Francisco
Xavier, V, No 20, Dt 22-1-1936 Page 215).
6. Father Ludovico Caridade Ferrao (Mon 252-40), son Francisco do Rosario
Ferrao (died at the age of 93 years on ...... 5-1911) and of Basta Raquel Pinto.

of Teja, in Panjim Church on 11-6-1781.

1889- 1892 - Chaplain of the Chapel of Calvim.
He had the title of "capacity to teach elementary, complementary subjects"
and latin for 10 years at Santer-Xetta, Aldona.
With "Exeat" Dt 20-4-1897, he went to work in the diocese of Angola. He was
in Lisbon where he served as chaplain of the third order of St Francis of
Assisi
for more than one year. Not having reached Angola he returned back to India
to work in Bengal and Mylapore, 1898.

He returned to Goa and was the Assistant of his brother Father Apolinario
Ferrao Parish Priest of Tivim. He died in Tivim on 27-71922 (Vide O Crente No

But his moral composure and culture earned hm general esteem and

8. Father Apolinario Leocadio Ferrao (Mon 262-1) son of Francisco do Rosario

Born at Santer-xetta, Aldona on 7-10-1855 and baptised on 17-10-1855 with
the name of Leocadio Apolinario....
Did his studies in Liceu Nacional and in the Instituto Professional.
Concluded theology at Rachol on 7-3- 1883.
Cleric with minor orders (menorista) on 27-6-83: subdeacon on 28-6-83 and
Deacon at Bom Jesus on 20-9-1884.
Ordained priest by Archbishop. D. Antonio Sebastiao Valente in Palacio de
Pangim on 29th June 1884. He celebrated his first mass in Charao Seminary (Sic)
(Provision of 8-7-1884) without retreat.

1883 to 1886 - General Prefect (sic) at Rachol Seminary (Port No. 115 dt
30-6-1883 worked from August 1883 to October, 1886.
In 1886 he was sent by Archbishop to Pondicherry to brush his french and

10-5-1887, taught from June 1887 to April 1889 (2 years ), when he left the

He was ordained priest by D. Sebastiao Jose Pereira Bishop of Daman with

mass in Pilar Convent on 10-10-1906 (Prov of 4-10-1906) and in Aldona on
14-10-1906.

brother of Fr Filipe Neri E de Amorim Ferrao, Vicar of Sawantvaddi" (Necrology

10. Fr Antonio Filipe Neri Eustaquio de Amorim Ferrao (Mon 298 -1)
son of Lucio Frederico Octaviano de Amorim Ferrao and of Amelia Expectacao
Baptista.
He is from Santer-Xetta, Aldona. Born on 29-9-1883 at Santer-Xetta, Aldona.
Concluded theology at Rachol on 27-3-1906. Cleric with minor orders
(Menorista) ordained on 17-12-1904; subdeacon on 15-10-1905; Deacon on 29-9-1906.
Ordained priest on 15-9-1907 by Dom Teotonio Manoel Ribeiro Vieira de
Castro, Bishop of Mylapore by delegation of the Ordinary on 15-9-1907 in the
external chapel of Paco Patriarcal. Celebrated first mass in Penha de Franca Church
on 20-9-1907 (Prov of 17-9-1907) and in Aldona church on 24-9-1907.

Teacher in Colegio de Sto Antonio in Mapusa and Bastora of the Direction of

Co-adjutor of Boptakhana in August 1910. Relieved by Portaria of the
Bishop of Mylapore dated 20-10- 1911 and returned at Goa.
Spiritual Director of the Sacred Heart School Parra from 1911 to Dez
1912. He was also professor of english in this school. He learnt
english in Calcutta and was quiet efficient in preaching in english
1912 to 1935 - Missionary of the Archdiocese of Bombay (Oficial of the
Archbishop of Bombay dt 11-12-1912) appointed on 27-12-1912.
He was the Vicar of the Church of Our Lady of Carmel of Ahmedebad
(Anuario 1928 and 1933). He was relieved and he returned to Goa in January
1935 not before he rebuilt the English High School which he handed
over to Apostolic Carmel Nuns. He also enlarged the parish residence and
contributed to the foundation of a Goan club in Ahmedabad and acquired
land to build therein the building of the "Catholic Gymkhana".
1935 to 1939- Vicar of Sawantvaddi; in charge (Port No 316 of
6-9-1935); Vicar of Sawantvaddi (efective) By prot No 46 of
30-10-1935, prov of 15-11-1935; took charge on 16-11-1935).
1939 to 1945- Vicar of Sao Bartolomeu of Chorao (Port No 2 of 10-1- 1939;
prov of 21-2-1939; took charge on 22-2-1939 (vide Subsidios op.cit.pp 95
-96) and Dean of Piedade from 1939 (Port No 21 of 15-4-39; prov 17-5-1939).
Due to his financial support Fr Bartolomeu Gomes of Chorao became
priest (Information by Frei Anastasio O.C.D)
1945 to 1948- Vicar of Piedade (port No 21 of 15-4-1939; prov of 1945.
Being sick he retired to his residence in 1947 and was relieved of his post
in March 1948.
He was a member of the Commission of Re-structuring of the Parish Schools
(Port No 137 of 22-12-1942. He had the priviledge of using ' mozeta sobre o
roquete' by port. No 6 of 7-3-1941.
He died in Aldona at 13 hours of 31-5-1948 and was buried on 1st June 1948
in the evening.

11. Fr Antonio Roque Joao Milagres Salvador Ferrao Figueiredo son of
Antonio Nicolau de Figueiredo (Loutulim) and of Marta Claudina Ferrao (Aldona) born
at Loutolim on 17-1-1918 and baptised in Loutulim on 26-1-1918.

1959 to 1965 - Chaplain of Gauncavaddo and of the convent of Siolim `
of the Holy Cross sisters (Port No 123 of 23-12-1959).
1965 to 1972- Vicar Oeconomus of Pomburpa (Port No 51 dt 25/5/1965.
April 1972 to 1974 -Vicar Oeconomus of Saligao (Port No 13- 72). It
was during his tenure that the Church of Saligao celebrated 100 years of
its foundation (1873- 1973).

Besides these posts he was also ordinary confessor of the Holy Cross Nuns
at Gaunsavaddo, Siolim, he was relieved of this post by Port 66- 65 dt

Elizabeth Pomburpa of the sisters of the Congregation of Christ the King (F.M.C.K)
by Port 73-75. Again appointed ordinary Confessor ad secundum triennuim of
F.M.C.K sisters at St Elizabeth, Pomburpa (Port 59-68, dt 10-7-1968) Appointed
ordinary Confessor of Holy Cross Convent, Siolim at first by Port 63 - 60 (Dt
29-6-1960)and ordinary
confessor ad secundum triennium of Holy Cross Convent (of Chavanod) by Port
38-63 (7-6-1963).
Earlier in 1959 he was appointed Ecdesiastical Assistant of H.C.F of
Catholic Action of Canca de Tivim at the request of the Vicar of Tivim (Port 31-59
dt 24-3-1958).
He died in Aldona on 18-3-1980
12. Msgr. Filipe Neri Antonio Sebastiao do Rosario Ferrao, son of Lourenco
Ferrao and of Palmira Nazare Ferrao. He is born in Mapuca on 20-1-1953 and
baptised in Moira Church of Imaculate Conception.
Having completed his primary education in Aldona he joined Saligao Seminary.
Then he entered Rachol Seminary but due to illness he was for some time in
Moira but then joined the Papal Seminary at Pune where completed his Bachelor's
degree in Philosophy and got Bachelors degree in Theology too.
He was ordianed priest in Aldona Church by Archbishop Patriarch D. Raul N.
Gonsalves on 28-10-1979.
For six months he was appointed assistant at Salvador do Mundo Church Serula
(C P- P/161 1979). Later he joined the Pastoral Institute and completed his
Pastoral Theology at Velha Goa in 1980 -1981.
By CP-P/28/81 dt 29-4-1981 he was appointed assistant at Chinchinim Church.
CP -P/72/84- Prefect of Discipline at Minor Seminary of Saligao Pilerne and
Teacher at the Seminary. He was appointed Director of the Vocation Commission
for the Diocesan Clergy of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman (V.C.D.C). He
was relieved of this post at his request to pursue higher studies in Rome and
Brussels (Cp-P/138/86. He left in mid 1986 to Europe.
In 1988 he obtained Licentiate in Biblical Theology from Propoganda of Faith
University Rome. Also Licentiate in Catechesis and Pastoral Theology
through the Lumen Vitae Institute of Catechetics affiliated to the Catholic
University of Luvain, Brussels.
After a period of two and half years he returned to Goa in 1991.
Appointed Director of Diocesan Centre of Lay Apostolate through CP-P/38/91
dt 24-4-91, he was also made Ex-officio Member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council
(CP-Dec/117/91). He was also member of the Diocesan Comission of Liturgy.
This appointment was of 2 years (CP-P/112/91)
Member of the Planning and Co-oridnating and Training Team for the Diocesan
Pastoral Plan, 1990 (CP-P/126/91) as Planning Expert.

CP-P/8/93 dt 5-2-93 appointed member of the Council of Priests of the
Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. Also chosen as member of the Reconciliation Body at
the first meeting of the Council of Priests held on 19-1-1993.
He is appointed member of the College of Diocesan Consultors (CP-P/9/93 dt
5-2-93).

Consecrated Bishop on April 10,1994 at 4.30 pm at Se Catedral Square.
Archbishop Patriarch of Goa and Daman D. Raul Nicolau Gonsalves was the principal
consecrator.
He was assisted by Bishops Alex Dias S.F.X (Calangute) of Andamans and
Nicobar Island (Port Blair) and Bishop Ferdinand Fonseca ( Aldona ), Auxiliary
Bishop of Mumbai as co-consecrators. Other Bishops concelebrating were
Bishop William D'Melo from Karwar, Bishop Valerian D'Souza of Poona (from
Sangolda) and Bishop Ignatius Lobo (from Siolim) Bishop of Belgaum. Around 300
priests and about 1500 faithful from Goa and other parts of India and abroad
attended.
